I always say if you are looking for the perfect place to get away from it all and get in touch with nature you must go Toco. One of my favourite places to visit after Tobago of course, Toco is one of the few beaches in Trinidad that has still maintained its pristine and natural state, not being spoiled by the advances in civilisation.
Having roots in Toco from both my paternal and maternal sides of the family Toco has always had a special place in my heart. I remember as a child looking forward to the ‘Toco drive’. At that time there were literally four car loads but has now dwindled to one. But the feeling hasn’t changed the connection is still there, anytime I want to feel at peace and connect with my inner spirit , Toco is the place.
I have always said that when I die I want my ashes to be spread in the Toco waters such is the spiritual connection I feel.
Maybe it is the spirit of my ancestors!.
However my last trip was tainted when I made the trek to the Toco Lighthouse , while basking in the beauty of the nature I was disheartened to see rubbish strewn between the rocks around me. Are we humans so caught up in ourselves that we can’t appreciate anything. They want to name the Lighthouse after Keshorn well at least keep it clean nah !
Trinidad is a beautiful place people let’s keep it that way! when yuh go to visit the people place leave it how you met it!
Anyway despite all this Toco still sweet too bad and only a place like Toco could produce talent like Keshorn Walcott
‘so next time yuh goin again give yuh gyul a call nah’
